Sorry I have not been posting much but I have been busy being an evolving human during the year 2011 and also busy with my music which assists!
Yesderday I attended the London Protests, 2 to 3 thousand protesters hit the streets by the Stock exchange and St Pauls Cathedral. I have not usually been one to attend such events either because of being too busy or admitedly maybe because a part of your mind see's it as quite daunting and a hassle.
This time because a few friends had brought it to my attention and I was in London that day it made me question my self and decide to go. I am often one to step forward and air my views to people and remind them or teach them how the powers of the world are nothing more that powerful criminals who gain there power from us. So why not step up and make up the numbers there? I think if anyone reading has felt the same about such days then you should do the same and get down and show the system that there is not as much apathy in the masses as they like to think!
I was meant to meet a couple friends there but they ended up being too busy so I planned to go alone which sometimes I like as you can really observe and look around and see more.
I had a gig later in the night so drove my gear down to the gig venue and then parked up, took my banner and got the train to the protest. (I did however leave my Camera behind which really annoyed me as I wanted to get loads of footage! :( )
I was pleased with how many people liked my banner, loads of pics of it so let me know if you see one! :)
On the way to the protest I bumped into a young chap who had two large wooden poles and a bag of cloth with him who asked me if I was heading to the protest so I sat with him and listened to his other experiences with protests. He was a member of the "Solidarity Federation" his name I cant recall as Im a retard when it comes to names! :)
I chat to him about his group and arrived at the protest with him and met his group. I was really impressed at seeing so many young people making such an effort to make a political difference to things. While I dont feel we need groups as such as they can sometimes make the cause easier to identify and oppress, they are still a great start! and I respected them, and would support them. Many would turn their nose up as soon as reading their support for comunist values, But the bottom line is the main cause it to remove dictating governments and put all desision making and powerful choices into the peoples hands, which is currently is not the case.
Solidarity Federation
We Arrived at St Pauls Cathedral at about 12:15 and shortly after a speaker took a mic and started to express the importance of the event and get the crowd motivated for the day.
Then the crowd moved towards the stock exchange entrance which was guarded by a line of police, and chanted "You say cut backs, we say fight back".
Then the crowds started to move around the back of the church but were blocked by police. So a small group gathered with a Mic and tried to arrange the protest more so there would be more power in numbers.. There were suggestions of circling St Pauls and the area and also walking to the houses of parliament..
But any plans were dashed when the police decided to cut off the whole area so people could not get in, or get out..
I do not hold a grudge at all these police men and women as they are just doing their job. But the agenda the police force had was allwasy going to be the cause of any real trouble, as prior to that there was no sign of it apart from people actualy enjoying them sevles and peacfully expressing their dislike for wealthy criminals.
First of all you can see the Lorry in the above picture who was held up there for hours, as well as fully loaded buses... A good ingredient for confrontation and friction.
Then of course there is the fact that people found them selves trapped against their will with the human rights removed.
There was clearly no threat of violence before they decided to do this and thankfully did not look like the people were going to start at any time soon, while some infact decided to use the blocked off road to play a game of football.
There were several TV stations there talking to the protesters and I infact done a small audio interview for a German Radio where I spoke my mind, shame I could not see if it went on air!. The strage thing is, I did not see any Sky TV or BBC there... or CNN or Fox news... But it was all Arab stations and Oriental ones.
For me this was strange and was an example of how the Western Media looks to cover up so much to its people. I imagine there must have been some UK press there but compared to the rest it was very poor.
A Libyan TV channel broadcasting while an angry protester calls them "Evil" and a disgrace for lies about Libya which lead to many innocent deaths to men women and children. He was approached by police but was smart and kept his cool.
A Protester being interviewed by what I think was a Chinese channel
While this protest was not quite as spectacular as others around the world, there was still 2 to 3 thousand people occupying a large area in London making their point, enough so for the police to block the whole place off. and Certainly enough to make a point!
Where most people gathered.
The crowd started to get angry when the Police would not let the founder of wikileaks Julian Assange in to speak through the mic, they eventually let him in.
I was getting worried about not being able to get out as I had a gig to get to, so I put my banner down and started to look for a way out, After a while I saw a spot where they were letting people seep out.
The last thing I saw was these guys who had the right idea :)
Its a shame the others who came down were not able to get in and make up even more numbers but I guess thats just what "They" did not want.
I decided that I will certainly make more of an effort to go to these things in the future as I think we all should because you definitely feel the power of unity there and if everyone else dropped what they were doing and joined in then the effect would be immediate. There will allways be political differences with us, but the most important thing is that WE the people have control over our world, not an elite group of greedy selfish bastards who have no interest in anything other than their own ideals.
Thanks for reading.
